A comparison site for everyday-carry gear. Specs from hundreds of brands are converted to the same units and definitions, and every number links to where it came from.

Astro TypeScript Preact Tailwind CSS Claude Cloudflare

Everyday Loadout compares everyday-carry gear (backpacks, flashlights, pens, wallets, watches, headphones and more) on specs you can actually filter on. Brands publish different numbers in different units with different definitions. Everyday Loadout converts them to the same units and definitions, links each value to its source, and shows "Not published" instead of guessing.

Sourced, Not Scraped Blind

A TypeScript pipeline finds products from brand stores, tracks prices, and uses Claude to pull specs from product pages. Each value is stored with a quote from its source and a confidence level, and disagreements between sources are noted. The crawler identifies itself, follows robots.txt, and never works around a block.

One Platform, Many Categories

The pipeline, search, comparison pages and article copy are written once. Each category only supplies its spec schema, rules and copy. That's how the site grew from backpacks to over a dozen categories in a few days.

Tech

Static Astro with one Preact search island (about 20 KB gzipped), Tailwind 4 with no component library, and Zod schemas shared between the pipeline and the site. It's deployed on Cloudflare Workers.
